We've always known that great hotels are made in great cities. Dublin gave us energy. Cork gave us warmth. Galway gave us soul. Munich? Munich gives us something else entirely.
The Dean Munich is open. And we can't wait to show you around.
The Design: Art Nouveau Meets 1980s Munich
Every Dean hotel is designed to tell the story of its city. In Munich, we handed that story to London-based interior designer Tatjana von Stein. What she has delivered is extraordinary.
Tatjana grew up in Munich, so this project is personal. "This is a city rooted in history but always drawn to reinvention," she says. "I wanted to capture that tension, somewhere between elegance and exuberance, and let it guide every surface, object and gesture." Her vision fuses Jugendstil heritage with the hedonistic energy of 1980s Munich nightlife. It’s all cream lacquer walls, a symbolic eye motif in the lobby, glossy surfaces, lacquered finishes and theatrically layered lighting. Custom furniture by Tatjana von Stein Studio. Vintage pieces and lighting from Cologne-based Studio Kuhlmann. A bespoke sound system by Friendly Pressure.
The 281 guestrooms have a soothing palette of gentle greens, subtle Jugendstil curves, smart tech and bespoke DS & Durga fragrances inspired by Ireland's natural landscape. It’s our largest hotel yet, and spaces range from Standard Rooms to The Dean Suite and The Penthouse Suite, complete with terraces and panoramic Westend views. It’s luxurious and comfortable, with the unmistakable Dean welcoming spirit.
The Art: The City Beneath the City
The Dean Munich opens with a site-specific art programme inspired by Italo Calvino's Invisible Cities, curated by Christian Ganzenberg, author, curator and Director of Munich's international art festival, VARIOUS OTHERS. Focused entirely on Munich-based contemporary artists, the works inhabit the building: Ju Young Kim's sculptures in the lobby, Veronika Hilger's paintings between memory and the surreal, a commission by Jieun Park in the public spaces, interactive works by Sebastian Quast in the hallways, photographers from Der Greif Studio in the guest rooms, and Ossian Fraser working with material sourced from the hotel site itself. As with all Dean hotels, it’s art as a journey, not decoration.
Eat, Drink & Be Spontaneous
No Dean hotel is complete without serious food and drink, and Munich is no exception.
Ibasho is our ground-floor Japanese restaurant, conceived by consultant Chef Alex Craciun, the man behind Michelin-starred kitchens in Japan, co-founder of Sosharu in London, and most recently his own restaurant Aces Food Craft. Expect pressed sushi (yellowtail with truffle; wagyu with oscietra caviar), robata-grilled steaks and seafood, and a caviar offering for lingering over. Start with the Seijaku Martini: sake, Haku vodka, saline, pickled ginger and cucumber.
Across the way, the Lobby Bar is a welcoming place. Morning coffee, small plates, after-work pints, something delicious to sip on a Wednesday afternoon. It's a place that works at any hour, for any mood.
Munich is a city that knows how to eat and drink well. As you can see, we intend to keep up.
Power: Munich's Best Boutique Wellness Club
Very far from your average hotel gym. The Dean Munich is home to a full Power wellness and fitness facility.
Power Munich features an indoor pool, sauna, steam room and spa treatment areas, a thermal suite with contrast therapy, and dedicated recovery zones alongside industry-leading fitness equipment. Class formats include high-energy MetCon sessions and Restore and Flow classes focused on mobility, longevity and balance — all delivered in a music-driven, immersive environment. It's a full wellness destination in its own right, open to guests and members alike. In a city that takes health seriously, Power is built to match.
Welcome to Westend
The Dean Munich sits on Landsberger Strasse 68 in Munich's Westend neighbourhood. This is a part of the city where old breweries stand next to art studios, where craft workshops share a street with tech hubs, where independent cafés and world-class beer gardens are separated by a short walk.
The Augustiner Keller, one of Munich's oldest and most beloved beer gardens, is a 17-minute walk. The spiritual home of Oktoberfest Theresienwiese is 18 minutes on foot. The Bavaria Statue, with its panoramic views across the city, is right around the corner. There’s no shortage of things to do in this beautiful city.
Locally Curated, Genuinely Connected
Even more than design, or the food, or the wellness, it's the philosophy that makes a stay at The Dean different. We create hotels that are rooted in their neighbourhood, the culture, the community around them.
In Munich, that means going beyond the stay. We share a more offbeat side to our cities with our guests. Hidden bars, the independent galleries, the beer garden tables that are off the beaten track. The things you only know if you live here.
A New Chapter for the Dean Group
In late 2025, we announced our international expansion plans of three new openings across Berlin, Munich and Miami. Munich marks the second international launch for the Dean Group, following the opening of The Dean Berlin in early 2026. Together they signal a clear new era for the brand: Irish at heart, global in ambition.
