Cork in Summer

May 21, 2026

Welcome to the People’s Republic of Cork, where the locals are fiercely proud of their city and once you spend a summer’s day here, you’ll quickly see why. Live music floats through the centre of town along the River Lee and festivals take over the streets, celebrating the story of this endearing city.

Stay with us at The Dean Cork, handily located a few steps from Cork (Kent) Train Station and the Victorian Quarter. Close enough to the action, with just enough distance to make your stay feel like a proper break.

This year is a good one for the Rebel City. Read on to find out why.

Big Acts, Local Legends

Every summer, the famous striped tent pops up in the city’s docklands (a 20 minute walk from our front door) to host Live at the Marquee, a series of concerts and shows running from June 10th to July 18th. Huge names are always on the bill here and 2026 is no different with David Gray, Christy Moore and Kevin Bridges taking to the stage this summer.

More under-the-radar artists are at home in Cork too, especially when the warmer weather brings the buskers out onto the streets to belt out a few tunes. This grá for music pours out onto the streets every time the doors of a trad-loving pub swing open, especially at An Spailpín Fánach and Sin É. Pop along to either one where you’ll hear live traditional music and enjoy a pint, any night of the week. Or if the sun is shining on the city and you’d prefer your drink with a view, take the elevator up to the top floor of The Dean Cork and look out to sea from Sophie’s while we make you a cocktail and a plate of something delicious.

Could This Be Ireland’s Foodie Capital?

One thing that Cork is particularly proud of is its food. Surrounded by lush farmlands and clean waters, the city is spoilt for choice when it comes to eating and it makes the most of it with plenty of food festivals and markets. The main port of call for any foodie visiting Cork has to be The English Market, where the best of local produce is on show. This love for good grub is taken to another level during August when Cork on a Fork is on. The festival takes place from August 12th to 18th, and it’s easily one of the highlights of the summer. There’ll be almost 100 events taking place in restaurants, cafés and outdoor venues across the city, ranging from demonstrations by local producers to talks from award-winning chefs and everything in between.

Corkonians embrace the wider world of food as well and one of the most interesting events has got to be the Irish Chilli Festival on June 27th and 28th in the Marina Market. If you like a bit of spice in your life, then this is a must, sure where else would you find an amateur chilli eating competition alongside the largest collection of hot sauce vendors in Europe?

Proud Of Our Past And Present

Cork’s waterways are a vital part of the city and this seafaring heritage is celebrated every year at the Cork Harbour Festival.

Events take place across the county from May 30th to June 8th, with the final schedule announced closer to the date. But if last year is anything to go by, expect exhibitions delving into the history of maritime trades in the city and action-packed boat races on the water.

The city shows off its vast wealth and diversity of talents at the Cork Midsummer Festival, a multi-disciplinary festival running from June 12th to 21st. That sees evocative live performances, vibrant art installations, and colourful street parades take over the city. The initial bunch of acts have been announced and it’s best to give them a follow on social media to see who’ll be announced next.

Just one visit is all it takes to see why people down here believe that Cork is the true capital of Ireland, and there’s no better time to visit than summer, when the city is in full swing. Book your stay at The Dean Cork and make your summer plans sweeter.
